2015 NFL Coach Sackings: Who Got Fired and Why

In mid-October, the 2015 NFL season was barely a third of the way done.  At that time I analyzed NFL coaching history and specifically looked at why coaches are fired (or retire).  I suggested that Tomsula of the 49ers and Payton of the Saints had the most to be worried about in keeping their jobs.  Others that had a reason to worry were Harbaugh (Ravens), Garrett (Cowboys), Caldwell (Lions), and McCoy (Chargers).

Was I right?  Yes and no.  Tomsula was fired.  Both Payton and the Saints seem to desire a separation (but he has yet to be fired).  McCoy is still the head coach, but his offensive coordinator is gone along with many other assistant coaches.  Caldwell's fate appears to be in the hands of a yet-to-be-named GM.  Harbaugh and Garrett appear to be safe.

Next year I'll make predictions later in the season for better results.

Many other coaches and GMs ended their tenure with their current teams.  Why did Coughlin "resign", and other coaches like Pettine and Kelly get fired?  Check out this post for the details.
